How do I get a job in the UAE?
Finding a job in the UAE is the ultimate goal.
The UAE. A place where the hospitals sparkle almost as much as the skylines, nurses are in demand, and your weekends could be spent wandering souks or brunching with a view of the Burj Khalifa. Sounds good, right? Now let’s talk about how to actually get there.
Unlike the USA, there’s no single national exam. Instead, each emirate has its own licensing authority:
DHA (Dubai Health Authority) – if you’re working in Dubai.
DOH / HAAD (Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, formerly HAAD).
MOHAP (Ministry of Health and Prevention) – covers the other northern emirates.
Each authority has its own requirements, but they all want proof that you’re a qualified, experienced nurse who can handle patient care in a world-class system.
To qualify, you’ll generally need:
A recognized nursing degree or diploma.
At least 2 years of experience (some roles want more).
Good standing certificates from your nursing council back home.
If you’re fresh out of nursing school with zero work experience, the UAE is probably not your first stop. Get some time on the job before applying.
Each licensing body requires you to pass a licensure exam. These are computer-based tests that assess your nursing knowledge and clinical judgment. Pass = you’re cleared to practice. Fail = retake (and retake again if needed).
The UAE takes verification seriously. Through the Dataflow process, your degrees, licenses, and work history are checked thoroughly. This step weeds out fake credentials—and yes, it takes time. Patience is key.
Once licensed, you’ll need an employer sponsorship. The good news? Nurses are highly sought after in the UAE, so once you’re cleared, employers are ready to hire and sort your work visa.
Now comes the fun part—packing your scrubs (and maybe some sunscreen). Life as a nurse in the UAE means tax-free salaries, international colleagues, and a lifestyle that balances hard work with serious adventure.
The UAE system can feel like a maze: multiple authorities, Dataflow, exams, paperwork that circles back on itself. That’s where we step in:
